“Black Blood” mini-opera follow up performance

My latest mini opera, “Black Blood” is having a follow up performance at the Paprika Festival in Toronto on Thursday March 8, 2012.  The librettist, Norman Yeung and I wrote “Black Blood” as part of Tapestry New Opera’s  “Composer-Librettist Laboratory” workshop and turned it into something longer than our other assignments. Tickets are $5 and available at the Tarragon Theatre Box Office.

Black Blood Synopsis:

Sun beats hot, crops wither dead, water runs poisonous.  War.  A dying Father and Son drink their last bowl of water.  They need oil to run their machines to purify the polluted water, to grow crops, to stay alive.  A hideous Creature from the enemy nation approaches them with a gruesome offer.

“Black Blood”, a short opera, is an allegory of our current wars over resources, giving voice to the victims who are innocent, who do not wish to fight, yet who suffer the most.
